Our son, Nikolas, spent the first 6 years of his life in an orphanage in Bulgaria. Since we adopted him six years ago, he has frequently talked about growing up in the orphanage and the things that need to be different for the children living there. Out of our conversations with him and his desire to make a difference, Nik’s Heart of Hope was created and nestled under the umbrella of Lost Sparrows.
Nik’s Heart of Hope is the part of Lost Sparrows that meets the tangible needs of vulnerable children and families in Eastern Europe, the Philippines and other parts of the world. In the past, Nik’s Heart of Hope has sent food packages to families in a remote village in Ukraine, supported a mobile van for families who have a child or adult with developmental disabilities Bosnia, supplied items to an organization that has created family housing for adults who have passed the age of being available for adoption and other projects.
As the crisis has continued to unfold in Ukraine, we know that now, more than ever, we need to support our in-country organizations as they are doing vital work with vulnerable children and families. They are providing shelter, food, rest and transportation to those having to flee their homes. We want to support their efforts however we are able. Right now, that means sending them the funds to purchase food parcels, gas, and extra supplies. Please continue praying for Ukraine and her people. Thank you for your continued support and generosity. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families.
After spending nearly 600 days in lockdown, the children and staff at the two children’s homes were overjoyed to have playground equipment in their backyards! Nik’s Heart of Hope, in partnership with other generous organizations, was able to help provide Helping Hands Healing Hearts Ministries with playground equipment, bikes and other items in order to bring healing and joy through play. Thank you for helping to bring such an incredible blessing to these children!
In April 2020, Nik’s Heart of Hope partnered with Freeway Kiev to provide vital food packages to families in rural villages. The parents of these families lost their jobs because of the lockdown and did not have the funds to buy food. The food packages provided had about a month’s worth of food and included items like rice, sunflower oil, sugar, buckwheat, flour, frozen fish, and chocolate.
We are thrilled to be partnered with Servis Centar Dajte nam šansu, “Give Us A Chance” in Sarajevo, Bosnia. They work with children, adults and families that have a family member with a disability by providing therapy services, medical care, food supplements, social activities and so much more. Lost Sparrows is committed to helping by funding their monthly gas bill for their mobile van, which is how they provide transportation for those who would have no other way to leave their house. Thank you for your generous, continued support!
In Ukraine, one of Wide Awake International’s vision’s is to “build family home for those that are not able to be reunified with biological family.” and they are doing just that! They’ve built several duplexes on their property in order to create family homes for men in a local institution. Nik, when learning about the needs for duplex, chose to help fund the music system and rocking chairs for the front porch because he said that he remembers how sad it is to sit inside and orphanage and he wants the boys to be able to “rock in the sunshine and sing to God.”
